At the April Farmers Market Sophie Moule from Cutnall Green, Kathy Yarnold from Tenbury and Rachel Gilder from Upton upon Severn who are member of The Worcestershire Young Farmers award winning cookery team demonstrated their cookery skills by creating a delicious 3 course meal using produce from our stallholders. Judging by the crowd of people around their stall it was a huge success

Blessing the PloughThe centuries-old custom of ‘Blessing the Plough’ was celebrated on Sunday 13 January outside The Talbot at Knightwick. The Plough-Blessing ceremony traditionally heralded the start of a new year in the farming community. The soil would not be turned before the plough had received, symbolically, the church’s approval. Plough Monday occurred on the first Monday following Twelfth Night and signified the first farm-working day after Christmas. On the day before – Plough Sunday – local farmers asked for the church’s blessing for the forthcoming year’s crops. The Reverend Robert Barlow, Chaplain for Agriculture and Rural Life in the Diocese of Worcester, conducted the outdoor service at the Teme Valley Market. John and Jill Hammonds represented the local farmers while Madeleine Brewin encouraged market customers and traders to accompany her musical endeavours on the keyboard.Article © Anthony Collis |
